Emergency Responders
As part of a device refresh programme, an organisation supporting emergency responders required a secure and efficient way to deploy new eSIM-enabled iPads while meeting evolving connectivity requirements.
The Challenge
With hundreds of devices to provision initially, and the potential for the project to scale into the thousands, a traditional manual deployment process would have been both time-consuming and resource-intensive. In addition, each device’s EID (eSIM Identifier) needed to be securely linked to the correct ICCID (Integrated Circuit Card Identifier), making accuracy and security critical.
The Jola Solution
To address these challenges, 420 resilient multi-network eSIM profiles were implemented, providing 3GB of pooled data with unsteered roaming across Vodafone, EE, O2, and Three. This ensured reliable connectivity by allowing devices to automatically connect to the strongest available network. eSIM profiles were downloaded remotely using SM-DP+ technology and deployed seamlessly through the organisation’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform.
The deployment process was transformed. Rather than manually unboxing every iPad, inserting physical SIM cards, configuring APN settings, and repeating the process for each device, the entire fleet could be provisioned through a single upload to the MDM platform. All iPads were fully provisioned in under 15 minutes.
The Feedback
The initial rollout successfully deployed 420 devices, with the solution designed to scale efficiently as the programme expands. By eliminating repetitive manual tasks, the organisation significantly reduced deployment time, improved operational efficiency, strengthened provisioning accuracy and security, and achieved measurable cost savings through reduced manual intervention.
